Module 8: Understanding PHP GET and POST Methods

For Module 8, I learned about the differences between the $_GET and $_POST methods in PHP and how they are used to collect information submitted through HTML forms. Both methods allow a website to receive information from users, but they handle the data differently.

The $_GET method sends form information through the website’s URL. This means that submitted information, such as a name or search term, can be seen in the address bar. GET is commonly used for search forms, filtering results, and retrieving information because the URL can be bookmarked or shared.

The $_POST method sends information through the body of an HTTP request rather than displaying it in the URL. This makes POST more appropriate for submitting information such as contact forms, registration details, or other user inputs. However, POST does not automatically encrypt information, so HTTPS is still important for protecting data.

For this assignment, I used the POST method to create an HTML form that collects a user’s first name, last name, and email address. The form sends this information to a separate PHP file, which processes and displays the submitted data.

Overall, this assignment helped me better understand how HTML and PHP work together to create interactive websites. Instead of only displaying static content, I can now use forms to collect and process user information.
